Maternity Leave – Weeks 2 & 3

We have a baby!

Maternity Leave weeks 2 & 3 have been a bit of a blur, but let’s see if I can catch you up –

Week 2

Monday was spent with final prep for baby. Went to a yoga class, went to acupuncture, enjoyed being able to drive myself around. Tried to talk my doctor out of inducing me on Tuesday. No luck there.

Tuesday was spent having a baby! She arrived at 3:09pm. I’m not really going to go into my Birth Plan and Birth Story and all that here, but I was able to have a natural birth – for the most part – which is what I wanted. I am in “recovery” mode for the next 4 – 6 weeks (8 weeks total).

The rest of Week 2 and Week 3

A BLUR! My husband and I are hanging in there. We have had lots of help from my dad and my in-laws and our friends have been wonderful. I have struggled with breastfeeding, but it sounds like everyone does. I’m not exclusively BF and I’m okay with that. Our baby is beautiful and happy and that’s all that is important! I’m sure she wonders when we are going to figure out how to take care of her…we are wondering that too 😉

So, there you have it! I haven’t touched my National Boards or anything work related (except checking email at least once a day), but now that we are getting more in the swing of things, I’m hoping to get back to National Boards soon. Right now, we are still all baby, all the time…

How was your week?

Congratulations on your beautiful new baby! You will soon learn how to hold her while breastfeeding and still be able to hold a book and read.
Sleep when Baby sleeps- don’t try to “get stuff done” while she is napping- you need your rest also, so sleep when you can. My first baby was 10 weeks old before I ever got around to mopping the kitchen floor- and that’s ok. The floor was still there and the world didn’t quit turning.

Enjoy these times- keep a calendar journal- almost easier than a baby book.

    Take care!
