Week 25

Week 25 was a short week for students – Monday was a teacher workday, so the day was spent in meetings and professional development.

5th graders continued Harlem Renaissance learning with a focus on the ART of the time period. We looked at different pieces of art and then turned up our Harlem Renaissance soundtrack and gave students a chance to paint in the same styles they had just learned about. They created murals using bright colors of paint…the murals look wonderful and are now hanging in the Learning Commons. Next week, we will wrap up everything we’ve learned with a “Cafe” and the sharing of poetry they wrote.

I read The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by Joyce to my South Carolina Picture Book Award classes (Kindergarten – 2nd grade). Depending on how much time I had with the class, we read the book and watched the movie. I love this book. And the movie (also available on iTunes). And the app. Next week, we vote for our favorite!

5th grade Media Technology students finished their “Favorite Time of Day” writings using the camera and Pages on the iPad.

Lion Cub Story Time was on Friday…since it is my last one for this school year (maternity leave starts in a week!!!), the theme was BABIES! Blog post coming soon!

We had another “book tasting” this week…this one was for a 3rd grade class who is starting an author study. I pulled books from popular authors and they rotated the books around to figure out which author they may want to learn more about. At the end of the book tasting, they had all selected an author to study.

A busy, but productive week! Next week will be more of the same…it is another short week (no school on Friday because we haven’t had to miss any days due to severe weather) and it is my LAST week! That snuck up on me QUICK!

How was your week?
