My first “real” day on the job was Saturday! I worked with almost all of the Maker Corps group (we were only missing one) and we spent the afternoon (I was there 1pm – 6pm) researching and brainstorming ideas for the spaces at my host site. When we got screen fatigue, we walked around the museum a little bit to get inspired (kids at play = inspiration) and then went back to work. Having a dedicated time to research and talk about ideas was fantastic.
This week, I’ll do more research, but I think I’ll also get to help out a little bit with some of the Maker Camps my host site offers and that will be interesting…just to see how the kids react to doing things like soldering and sewing on a sewing machine, also to see how a museum setting is different/similar to a school setting/public library setting. I’m also excited about the upcoming Columbia SC Mini Maker Faire. I’ve been looking forward to that since I missed it last year!
