What a fun and LOUD story time this was!
We had music note nametags and played songs from my Spotify playlist (Music Theme Storytime) as they walked in.
I read Jazz Baby by Lisa Wheeler.
Then we got up to move. We did the “We Can…” fingerplay that I found on this blog post by Miss Meg.
I read Dancing Feet by Lindsey Craig and we tried to guess the animals that were dancing.
Last book was Dance With Me by Charles R. Smith, Jr. With this one, we got up and did whatever the characters in the book were doing. Next time, I might play some music as I read this one, so that we have something to dance by.
After reading about music and dancing, it was time to make our own music! I borrowed a bunch of instruments from our music teacher and showed kids how to play with the Sound Box app on the iPad. I gave everyone about 5 minutes to make their own music. That was the loud part of story time 🙂
Then it was time for a craft! They made drums out of styrofoam bowls (inspired by this blog post) and decorated them with foam stickers. Their snack was “drum sticks” (stick pretzels).
We had lots of fun making music and dancing!
