2013 – 2014 Week 3

This was a short week, because we were off on Monday. How is it that short weeks always feel REALLY long???

Here’s what happened in our Learning Commons this week!

All 1st – 5th grade classes were shown how to use our Self-Checkout station. Instead of demonstrating for every class myself, I made a video of one of our 2nd graders going through the steps of checking out a book on her own. I showed the video to everyone…we’ll see how they do!

Kindergarten students wrapped up their book care lessons with this video. One of my favorites to show each year. I am so, so thankful to Mrs. Stover! She seems awesome. After watching the video, they come up to the SMARTBoard for a sorting activity. They have to move images to “Yes, Yes” or “No, No.” There are pictures like someone holding their book the proper way, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a baby with a book in his mouth, etc.

5th grade Media Technology students worked on the privacy lesson in Digital Passport and talked about Internet safety in the Computer Lab with Mrs. Mann using Netsmartz.

I kicked off our National Library Card Sign Up Month promotion this week – I want students, parents, teachers (everyone, really) to send me a picture of themselves with their public library card. I’ve gotten a few super cute ones already!

We got LOTS of new books in this week, which is always exciting. And, I’ve been doing a lot of planning for some upcoming professional development I’m doing for teachers, a recycling grant I’m writing, Dot Day/Week celebrations, and our Star Wars READS Day event! Lots of fun stuff happening in our Learning Commons!

How was your week?
