ALL classes came to the Learning Commons this week for library book checkout. That means that we had orientation ALL WEEK LONG. The first couple days of orientation aren’t bad, but then you start feeling like a broken record and wondering to yourself if you’ve told this group of kids your story yet. It’s nice when orientation week is OVER!
For orientation, I like to make a video so that I am not repeating myself too, too much. This year, I was inspired by one of my Smart Lady Friends to make a video using the Sock Puppet app on the iPad. The video was short (about 3 minutes) and went over where things are in the Learning Commons. You can watch it by clicking this link. I made two – one for 1st and 2nd graders; another for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. The only difference between the two are the titles I mention when I talk about Everybody Fiction and Fiction.
My Kindergarten classes met Mr. Wiggle. I read Mr. Wiggle’s Book. I went through items in Mr. Wiggle’s bookbag and we talked about if they were “good” (thumbs up) or “bad” (thumbs down). I send home a letter that explains everything we learn so that they can hopefully get some help taking care of their library books from their parents. Check out the letter here.
I hope you had a great week, readers!
