World Book Night 2013 was on April 23. I applied to be a World Book Night Giver what feels like ages ago and I had SO MUCH FUN! I wasn’t sure what to expect – I mean, I am kind of a book giver all day long, every day as a librarian, right? This was so different. I gave out copies of The Phantom Tollbooth, which just happens to be one of my all time favorites. I gave a copy to my Acupuncturist and to the folks who own the place I work out at and then to a bunch of strangers trying to eat a nice dinner out on a Tuesday evening. They all had the same reaction – first, they would look at me like I was a bit crazy (like, “it’s not my birthday” or “I didn’t ask you to bring me that” or “please don’t stop at my table and talk to me”) but, then after I explained what the night was about and that they could have the book and keep the book and after they realized that I was going to leave them alone – the smiles and the reactions were just priceless. I can’t wait to apply again and I hope I am able to be a Giver next year! I already have a plan of action in mind, so I hope I get to carry it out! VBF
