This week felt fast and furious. There was no school on Friday and I was out on Tuesday at a meeting (Common Core). Here’s what we did in the NPES Learning Commons on the days I was there!
5th graders wrapped up Harlem Renaissance research projects. They created Prezis with the information they found and I think they did a great job! Here is an example of one of the Prezis: http://prezi.com/zvkhiaqewrbu/selma-burke-prezi/?kw=view-zvkhiaqewrbu&rc=ref-30161835
5th grade Media Technology students continued learning about being a good digital citizen using Digital Passport from Common Sense Media. We are going through all of these lessons and then plan to move into learning about apps and tools on the iPad.
Kindergarten students started voting for their South Carolina Picture Book Award nominee. With kindergarten, I went very old school with my voting. I made a ballot with all of the book covers of the book award nominees and I made a copy of the ballot for all of kindergarten. After reading Charlie Cook’s Favorite Book and having a discussion about “favorites,” they simply circle their favorite nominee and turn it to me. 1st and 2nd graders are voting using a Google Form (a little more 21st century!). 3rd – 5th graders are voting for the South Carolina Children’s Book Award nominee using a Google Form as well. Votes will be submitted on Wednesday. I’m excited to see which book will be our favorite!
There is no school tomorrow (Monday) for students. We have a teacher workday…if you have the day off, enjoy it!
