Thanksgiving break is over and just like that, it’s Christmas time!
Last week was a short week at NPES (obviously). I helped 5th graders finish up their inventor glogs. I saw one “regular” kindergarten class on Monday and we read The Ugly Pumpkin (a favorite of mine). After reading that book, I followed this lesson idea. Cute stuff!
On Tuesday, our school had a STEM Safari. It was a day dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It was sponsored by the Wonder Den (I am part of the Wonder Den…our school has “dens” this year…groups of teachers with common skills and interests who plan certain events and activities throughout the year). For STEM Safari, all students participated in a QR Code STEM Scavenger Hunt (I created it with the help of one of our teachers. We used this awesome website. Note to self for next year: 5 questions max and have 2 sets of questions – one set for K-2 and one set for 3-5); hands on science experiments in their classrooms; a Mad Science presentation; and team building activities with Related Arts. I think it was a great day, overall!
For Thanksgiving, my dad and my husband’s family came over and I cooked. This was the first Thanksgiving without my mom and I kept busy. I did lots of yoga. It wasn’t bad. The Christmas holidays, however, are going to be a little harder. Christmas was my mom’s MOST favorite time and there are so many traditions and things we did every single year together (even last year…as sick as she was), that it is going to be hard. BUT, I have wonderful friends, my dad, my husband, and my yoga. It will be okay.
Have a wonderful week, friends.
