This week was our All Star Scholastic Book Fair!
I pretty much do the same thing every year for our Book Fair. I host a “teacher preview” where teachers can come in and fill out their classroom wish lists and have some snacks; we have an early morning event (we loosely market this for grandparents, but anyone can come in and shop); and we always have an afternoon/family night where we stay open late.
I do try to do some special things based on the theme each year. This year’s theme was All Star (sports). So, for the teacher preview snacks, I had some football shaped brownies and Starburst candies (get it? STARburst for All STAR). I also put sport themed stickers on the water bottles. For our volunteers, I put Cracker Jacks in clear goodie bags with ribbon. I created a playlist on Spotify with sporty/fun music (search for “all star book fair” on Spotify if you want to check it out).
For our family night, we had a Diary of a Wimpy Kid release party along with Clifford the Big Red Dog. For the release party, I had cupcakes with wimpy kid cake toppers I made by printing out covers of the books (I printed them really small), laminating them, and hot gluing them to toothpicks. I also had slices of cheese (a la cheese touch) for a snack. I set up Garageband on the Wii for a little Loded Diper action, but no one took me up on that.
And, that was Book Fair! We’ll have another one in May.
In addition to Book Fair, I continued to help 5th graders with their inventor/Glogster projects. I wrapped up another group of 1st grade animal research. And, Lunch Bunch finished Because of Mr. Terupt.
Media Technology learned how to use “Tell a Story” in Kerpoof. Since we know they are learning about inventors in their classroom, we had them tell a story about their inventor.
Next week is a short week because of THANKSGIVING! I am thankful to have a job that allows me to be off 3 whole days for the holiday – I think students and teachers both are ready for a little break. Enjoy it, teacher friends!
