Here’s a random post to update you on all of the summer fun happening at the Byrd/Fort home!
Today is the 4th of July, friends! Every year, I can’t help but remember the summer that my cousin from Germany stayed with us and said, “is today the day you Americans eat turkey?” Turkey BURGERS, maybe, but not turkey, generally, no.
A friend celebrated her birthday last week and her gift was Pinterest inspired, of course! The pin going around Pinterest is so cute – gumballs in a glass jar with candles indicating the age of the birthday person. I decided to do something similar for Jackie, but instead of gumballs (she hates gum and what kind of gift is a jar full of gumballs, anyway?), I put 36 things in a jar.
Glass jars are pretty cool. You could create glass jars with things from a book and display them in your library (for example, if you want to create a book jar for Charlotte’s Web, you might include a fake spider web, a spider, a plastic pig, some hay, etc.). Or, I’ve seen lots of jars with magnetic letters, chalk, crayons, etc. All great for school decor!
It’s that time in the summer when I start really planning and thinking about the upcoming school year. What are you doing for orientation? Your state book award program? Common Core? So much to plan! I’ve been doing lots of exploring and “research” on the internet and on Pinterest, of course. I’ve also been exploring some great apps – my most recent new favorite iPad app is the Reading Rainbow app. SO COOL! Looks like they are beefing up resources for educators too, so look out for that.
I bought a juicer and have been trying to make a juice everyday. Some have been GREAT (orange juice, watermelon juice? You must try! Not together though…); some not so much (cucumber and grape? Not good.)
I started a Couch to 5K program for kicks. I also signed up for The Color Run in Charlotte. SO EXCITED!
And I suppose that’s it. Hope you are loving your summer so far!
PS – What are you reading? My summer reading stack and holds list at the library is getting so short! Help!
