I hosted my monthly storytime yesterday at the local apartment complex. It was DOG themed in honor of Emily, a Therapy Dog, who came to the apartment complex too! Emily comes to my school once a week during the school year and students read to her – this summer, she is going to pop by the apartments a couple of times so that the kids can read with her and so that she (the dog) can spend time with kids. It is obvious that Emily LOVES what she does!
So, after Emily left (she was there for an hour), we got started with storytime.
I read Bark, George by Jules Feiffer (one of my ALL TIME favorite children’s books)
Then we did a few yoga poses – downward facing dog, upward facing dog, and puppy.
I read Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey
Then we had a free style dance party to the tune, “Who Let the Dogs Out?!”
Finally, I read If you Give a Dog a Donut by Laura Numeroff
After all that reading, we were ready for a craft! Origami dogs coming right up!
After our craft, it was time for a snack. Donuts, of course!
A perfect storytime for the “dog days” of summer – get it?! 🙂
