For the next few months, I will be focusing on reading South Carolina Picture Book Award Nominees with my K – 2 students. This week, I read LMNO Peas by Keith Baker to 1st and 2nd grade (K is still doing BATS). Such a wonderful ABC book – I love looking at the illustrations…they are all focused on pea careers. There are even yogi peas πŸ™‚ After explaining the book award program, I read the book. Then, we talked about how this was an alphabet book. I SHOULD have then had them sing the good ol’ alphabet song, but I didn’t. After talking about the alphabet, I asked them how we can talk without speaking. They all guess sign language right away. I showed them this Wonderopolis page about sign language and then used this app to learn the sign language alphabet. Fun!

I also did some inventor research with 5th grade this week.

Storytime yoga was supposed to be leaf/Fall themed. I only had 2 kids because of a timing mix up, so we ended up doing yoga games that they like instead – pick a card, any card and just a mix of our favorite poses.

Pretty easy PEAsy week πŸ˜‰
