Yesterday was my last summer storytime for Park North. The theme was BACK TO SCHOOL!
The plan –
Listened to Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin; art by James Dean (hoped to show the book at the same time, but I didn’t get it from Amazon in time…oh well! I will have it to show to the rest of my kiddos when school starts).
Read The Wonderful Book by Leonid Gore and then did some yoga poses that reflected animals and things in the book (poses we did were rabbit, table top, and bear breath).
Read/”did” Press Here by HervGe Tullet Such a FUN, interactive book! I can totally see doing something with this on the SMARTBoard during the school year.
After books, it was time for a craft…they decorated blank books and I told them they were making these books so that they could write their own “wonderful book.”
For snack, I bought back to school cupcakes from our local Publix. Regular cupcakes with back to school themed picks in them (an apple, a glittery 1-2-3, a box of crayons, etc. – I think all Publix are selling these now, so stop by if you have a Publix near you!)
That was the plan! I will do more storytimes throughout the upcoming school year – at Park North and at school for our little Lion Cubs (a program I do where I invite the younger brothers and sisters of our students to come to storytime). I will post the plans as they happen (especially now that blogging seems to be a habit!)
Happy New (School) Year!
PS – I asked that you think healing, good thoughts for my mom – keep them coming!
