Made me think…

Mary and I did our presentation today at SCASL about Blogging and Podcasting. We had a HUGE crowd! Thank you to everyone who came at 8am to hear us speak.

One question really has me thinking. Someone asked about the copyright issues of posting choral concerts and such. We do have a public performance license and I do know that our chrous teacher uses music that is for school performances, but I don’t know what all that includes. Just live audience at the actual performance? We do record it and she shows it to the classes…is that okay? I have heard of schools who make DVDs or CDs of their concerts for parents…is that okay? Great question and I am going to look into it.

I will be posting our handout soon. Mary will as well.

Great conference!

Looking forward to next year,

VBF

Loved the presentation! Thank you (and Mary) for doing it. I especially appreciated your advice for first time ‘school’ blogging. I set a blog up this for my fifth grade. The teacher wanted a way for the students to respond to literature and it seemed a perfect fit. However, most of our children do not have a computer at home, which is why I approached the teacher about the blog idea in the first place. I hoped she could allow them to use the computer to blog their book reviews as time permitted. She was excited. I was excited. I introduced the idea to the kids. They were familiar with my blog having viewed while I was in China. I taught them how to post, etc. Nothing happening since. Hmmm…

I’m not giving up. I’ve mentioned it to another teacher (3rd grade) and am still thinking of ideas. I never thought of your approach. So, you have the kids write their review down and you type it in. Is this correct? That may work out better for me.

Thanks for sharing what you’re doing!

I really enjoyed the presentation! I would love to be able to start podcasting booktalks at my school and look forward to your handout being posted, since I arrived right at 8:00 and the room was already packed!

What energy and enthusiasm you both have for your jobs. Your students are extremely fortunate to have you!

VBF — Your presentation was great! I am trying to get the blogging sites unblocked so we can use them here at Fairfield Central! I currently have a blog but students have to log in to their eChalk account to access it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to use yours and Mary’s as examples of why this is great for our students and our libraries! Thanks for the great tips and you both did a great job…..
