This post was from a couple of weeks ago – not sure why it appears to be a “draft”???? Here it is again, just in case it was lost in cyberspace.
Park North story time was today! The theme was LET’S DANCE!
I was inspired by this post on the wonderful blog, Storytiming.
Here’s the scoop:
I read Elephants Cannot Dance by Mo Willems
We listened to (and followed along with the book) Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin; illustrated by James Dean.
I read Wiggle by Doreen Cronin; illustrated by Scott Menchin (we moved and wiggled along with this one)
Here are more dance stories I brought with me, but did not read this time around :
Dance With Me by Charles R. Smith, Jr.
Bounce by Doreen Cronin
Punk Farm by Jarrett J. Krosoczka
After reading Wiggle, we created our craft – a SHAKER!
Directions (and picture) modified from What’s Up Sippy Cup?
Bottle Shaker
You will need:
*plastic water bottle
*dry beans
*foam stickers

Fill water bottle 1/3 of the way with dry beans
Replace cap back onto bottle.
Have child decorate the bottle with foam stickers.
Now start shaking!
After they finished their SHAKER, it was time for a snack. The snack was Pete the Cat – inspired. In the story he starts with new white shoes. He’s walking along and steps in strawberries, blueberries, and mud. I brought kabobs with marshmellows (white), strawberries, blueberries, and brownies (for the brown mud).
After snack, it was time to DANCE! There is a Wii at Park North, so I brought my copy of Just Dance Kids and we danced the afternoon away. We ended up dancing to 7 songs, but I think we could have danced longer…the perosn in charge of the center needed to leave, so our dance party was cut short.
Much fun!
